Our verdict

It depends on your priorities

Two configurable work platforms with almost identical free plans and different ideas about what belongs in the first paid tier.

TechBigs verdict, published Sep 4, 2026

Asana's Starter plan at US$10.99 already includes timeline, workload and unlimited automations. monday reaches the same ground at Standard and Pro, at US$12 and US$19 a seat. Choose monday when you want the board to be a database; choose Asana when free guests and portfolio reporting matter.

The free plans are the same size

Asana Personal covers two users with unlimited tasks and projects, list, board and calendar views. monday's free plan also stops at two seats, with up to three boards and three documents. Neither is a small-team plan; both are a way to try the product.

What the first paid tier buys

Asana Starter is US$10.99 per user a month on annual billing and includes timeline and Gantt views, custom fields, workload and unlimited automations. monday Basic is US$9 a seat, but timeline and Gantt appear on Standard at US$12, and time tracking and resource management on Pro at US$19. The cheaper headline number is not the cheaper equivalent plan.

Guests and collaborators

Asana states unlimited free guests that do not count against the user total, which suits agencies and cross-company projects. monday lists guest access on its plans without publishing the same unlimited-and-free framing on the page we read, so we record guest access as present rather than free.
