TechBigs

Privacy

What the site stores when you use it, described from the code that runs it. Nothing here is a template.

Owner review pendingBefore public launch, the owner supplies:

  • The operating entity, the contact address for privacy questions, and the applicable jurisdiction.
  • The hosting and database providers named once deployment is chosen.
  • A retention limit for raw outbound-click events.

The short version

TechBigs has no accounts, no sign-up and no third-party analytics or advertising scripts. Fonts are served from our own site. The site sets one first-party cookie, only when you add a product to your shortlist, and it records an anonymised event when you follow a vendor link. Nothing stored can be used to identify you.

Vendor links

Every "Visit vendor" link goes through our own redirect. When you follow one, we record: the product, where on the page the link was (for example the profile header), the path of the page you came from, the hostname of the destination, a device type derived from your browser's user-agent string (desktop, mobile, tablet or bot), the time, and a random reference for that click.

We also store a session key: a hash of your browser's user-agent string and language preference, salted with a server secret that changes every day. It cannot be reversed, is never joined to anything personal, and stops linking visits after one day. We do not store your IP address, your location, or a persistent identifier.

If the link is an affiliate link, the affiliate network receives the click reference and your request as with any link you follow; its own privacy policy applies from there. See the affiliate disclosure.

Page views and search

The public site does not currently record page views or search impressions. The database is prepared for anonymised counts of that kind (using the same daily session key, never an identity), and this page will say so before they are switched on.

Retention and use

Outbound-click events are used for the trending calculation and for internal reporting on which products attract interest. They are kept in aggregate form and are not sold or shared beyond what the affiliate network already receives when you follow its link. A retention limit for the raw events is an open item for the owner before launch.

Hosting and logs

The site runs on a hosting provider and a hosted PostgreSQL database that keep standard technical logs (such as request timestamps and IP addresses) for security and operations under their own terms. The provider is chosen at deployment and will be named here.

Your rights and questions

Because the site stores nothing that identifies you, there is no personal record to export or delete; clearing your cookies removes the shortlist. Questions about this page go to the contact address the owner supplies before launch.
